Carnations are a great
choice.
They are known as cut
flower that lasts a long
time!

Botanical Name: Dianthus caryophyllus

Common Name: Carnation

Availability: All year round.

Colors: Available in almost every different color, but a true
blue.

Varieties: Some well known varieties are the Pinks, and
Sweet Williams.

Facts: Carnations make an excellent cut flower. As a cut
flower Carnations last quite a long time; making them an
ideal choice for bouquets as a gift.  

Origin: Near East.

Facts of Interest: The Carnation's original color was pink,
eventually becoming available in more colors. Many people
around the world wear a Carnation on  during certain
celebration and occasions. In Canada and the
United States, Carnations are often worn on the second
Sunday in May in celebration of Mother's Day. A red
Carnation is generally worn if your mother is alive,
and a white Carnation is worn if she has died.
A popular choice for Weddings, as well.   
On St. Patrick's Day you might even see people wearing a
green Carnation. This flower is a symbol for the Portegeuse
Carnation Revolution.
