Saving Tomato Seeds Save your own tomato seeds from your own tomatoes to grow next year.
This is easy to do, and gives you another seed that you can share with family and friends.
1. Cut a fully ripened tomato in half, and squeeze out the juice and, seeds into a bowl.
2. Add about 1/2 as much water as there are juice and seeds. Keep the dish at room temperature for approximately 3 days; stirring mixture twice a day. Do this until fermentation begins and mold begins grow on the top of the mixture.
3. Add enough water to double the mixture and stir. The clean, healthy seeds will sink to the bottom, and the hollow empty seeds, and mold will float to the top. Gently drain off the top. Add more water, stir and drain off top again. Repeat this until there are only clean good seeds left.
4. Pour the mixture into a strainer to collect seeds. Pat dry with a paper towel. Place seeds onto a glass saucer or plate. Stir twice a day to prevent seeds from sticking together and to help tomato seeds to dry evenly.
5. Now you have tomato seeds saved for your next crop of tomatoes.
